Who Is John Houtman?

- John Houtman is a nature and wildlife
photographer from Southwestern Pennsylvania. His work includes wildflowers,
birds, reptiles, mammals, waterfalls and landscapes in Alaska, Florida,
Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia. He and his wife,
Kathy, have four daughters and eight grandchildren and have been married since
1964. John retired from an
engineering and management career in May 2000 having worked in the nuclear
power industry for Westinghouse Electric Company for over 30 years. John is
a graduate of the University of Michigan and of California State University
Long Beach.

- His love
of nature and photography led him to start a second professional career in
photography in 2001. John has studied photography in correspondence courses
and photography workshops in addition to his own self-study and many years
of photography as a hobby. His photos have been published in The War
Cry (national publication of the Salvation Army), Camping Life gallery, and
the Nature Photographer's Network online magazine.

If you are in South Western Pennsylvania, you can visit his home business in
Kecksburg, PA. From Mount Pleasant, PA, take Route 31 east to Laurelville,
turn left (north) on Route 982 to Kecksburg. At the stop sign in Kecksburg, turn right (east on Clay Pike Road) and proceed up the hill to Ankney
Hill Road, about 1.25 miles. Turn left (north again) on Ankney Hill Road
and proceed to the corner of Saw Mill Road (about 0.5 mile). From Latrobe,
PA, follow Route 982 south to Kecksburg. At the main corner in Kecksburg,
you'll reach Clay Pike Road at a stop sign. Turn left (east) and proceed
to the corner of Ankney Hill and Saw Mill Roads as described above.
The photo shop is located near Kecksburg, PA on the corner of Ankney Hill and
Saw Mill Roads. Look for the sign below.
